Weather It Is (Dangerous storm! (Will it Snow in Tel-Aviv?))

The latest GFS and GEFS ensemble forecasts are now out and they provide a chilling indication of what is most likely to be a storm to remember.  The GFS and ensemble mean forecast temperatures for Wednesday night are below -30 Celcius at 500 mb, with heavy precipitation also forecast. This will soon be reflected on our weekly forecast pages as well.  Moreover, there is the possibility that snow will fall in Tel-Aviv as 500 mb height levels fall below 5400 meters.

This is a potentially very dangerous storm; it's not often that we combine such cold with heavy snow. The storm should continue into Thursday, before tapering down in the afternoon.  However, it will remain cold and there is the possibility of another round of heavier precipitation later on Friday into Shabbat.
