Weather It Is (Winter Storm Update #3)

Winter Storm Warning for late Wednesday and Wednesday Night. Winter Storm Watch for late Thursday night and Friday.

The latest forecast is right on schedule with the development of heavy rain bands over the northwest coastal regions, which are moving southward towards the center of the country.  Expect these heavy rain bands to arrive over the center during the late night.  Tomorrow, over the north, rain will transition to snow in mountainous areas.

Tomorrow, the timing is a bit uncertain (i.e, between mid-afternoon and evening -- well know better tomorrow morning about this), but we expect an extremely heavy precipitation band to sweep into the center part of the country as cold air piles in from the north.  This band will probably quickly transition to snow and ice as it associated cold front rides up over the central mountains.  The roads will likely become snow and ice covered (and this includes higher locations in Jerusalem as well).

The temperatures should moderate after the passage of the front, and the question is whether just plain rain falls by morning or a mixture of snow and rain.

Thursday should be off-and-on wet, and then -- like a creaking ship freezing in the sea -- the atmosphere will just seem to get colder and colder until rain transitions to snow late Thursday night/early Friday, and lasts into Shabbat morning.

At least that's the forecast for now.  Be careful and stay-tuned.
