Weather It Is (A Bit Confused)

Good Evening:

There is no clear picture of our weather forecast.  This is a bit like the Israeli elections, which gave a 60/60 split to right and left.  The only thing we've got going for us is that there is a trend in the temperatures downward -- not withstanding the quick bump in temperatures before our next system moves in.

What one does see is the attempt at a phasing of the northern and southern branches of the jet stream on about Shabbat.  A true phasing would allow very cold air to move southward, possibly resulting in a snowstorm. However, another area of low pressure tries to enter the picture from the west, which then retrogrades the whole system to the west, before popping a smaller area of low pressure our way on Sunday.  Colder air does seep in behind this system, but it brings "only" rain.

Looking at the long range GFS ensemble doesn't shed much light on our weather either, although some of the members do approach cold enough temperatures to bring some wet snow in the higher elevations.

By the time we get this sorted out, we'll also hopefully know who and which parties will be leading the country.
