Weather It Is (Winter Storm Gets Colder)

Good Morning:

Winter Storm Warning for Gush Etzion, the area of Meron, and the Golan.  Snow Advisory for Jerusalem for the afternoon.

Temperatures in Gush Etzion have dropped to as low as 1.5 C, but have risen recently to 1.8 C.  The latest forecast shows that the cold air will push in the next six hours, dropping the temperatures to just below freezing.  Our latest high resolution ensemble forecasts and highest resolution forecasts show the precipitation should remain light until about 11 A.M, but then become moderate between 11 A.M and 2 P.M. Between 2 P.M and 5 P.M heavy snow should fall.  It should taper to light to moderate snow in the evening.  During this time, the temperatures will continue to fall, and the snow should become light and continue periodically into the morning.  The roads will most likely become snow-covered between 11 A.M and 2 P.M.

The snow amounts by evening are 5-10 cm in Gush Etzion.  In Jerusalem, the change to cold and snow should occur between 2 P.M and 5 P.M, and accumulate around 5 cm.  In the southern mountains, snow amounts should be 5-10 cm by morning. In the vicinity of Meron, snow amounts should be between 10-25 cm.  In the area of Ein-Zvn, 10-25 cm, while Katzrin should have 5-10 cm.

The cold air will remain deeply entrenched until late Thursday.  Then, the temperatures will moderate steadily during the week, before a possible return to winter late next week.
